Clio MK3 dci 1.5 2006

Postby Bear » Thu Oct 12, 2017 11:38 am

Hello, I have a 2006 MK3 diesel Clio and she has oil over the air intake pipe where another pipe joins it.
Is this oil likely to be from the engine breather, or is it something more sinister?

I hope it's ok to link to this site, I don't have web space anymore, anyhow this engine has the same problem as mine; top right of photo.

What sort of mileage has it done?

It's done just over 100,000 miles.
I haven't worked on this engine before so I'm a bit in the dark.
At first I panicked, thinking it may be the turbo seals, but there is no smoke from the exhaust or any loss of power.
So I'm now thinking it could be coming from the engine breather pipe, piston blow by or valve stem seals as this seems to be the Achilles heal of Clio's of this age.

There's often misting around that area. If it's had regular oil changes they are quite solid engines. Mines on about 180000

2006 would be 11 oil changes by now. 1 per year. If it's missed many then you could well have faults. To check if it is blow past take the filler cap off when running as you can see exhaust fumes coming out

There is some thing else you might help me with; when I accelerate hard the engine warning light comes on, reading the service notes, they mention fuel starvation. Any idea what this could be down to?

Without a code from clip it's impossible to say could be anything
