Oil Dipstick

Postby FreightlinerGazza » Sun Apr 02, 2017 7:36 pm

Started to change oil in my renault Clio mk3,came to pull the dipstick out and the bottom 3 inches was missing,I took off the pipe it sits in but nothing there so bought a new dipstick and when I try to fit it,only fits in so far so I presume the bottom of it is still stuck in there somewhere so if I push it through into the sump will it damage anything or would I have to take the sump off to fish it out,is it an easy job to remove and refit the sump, thanks

It's probably best to remove te sump if you can't get the metal tube out. If it falls in it possibly won't matter that much as there is a strainer on the pump but over time it will break up and them cause issues.
